I am Babs and my daughter is Bec. My daughter used to be in the shop with me but now she has two kiddos and a full time job. Bec is an accomplished seamstress and makes fabulous quilts. I miss her and her additions to the shop. Life has changes and I continue on, I actually have 9 grandchildren now!

I sell handmade art & vintage goods. I shop for the vintage items and and sometimes I create a REMIX. I also ReMix mid-century modern plates into groovy clocks. ReMix is our word for -recycle - up-cycle - re-purpose. I also use my vintage barkcloth fabric and make wall art in frames and hoops.

This year's beach week with the GIRLFRIENDS includes some themed nights, and one is Tropical Night! I knew when I found this it would be perfect! Just got it yesterday and it fits great. Can't wait to pull the hair back and add a flower and slip into the perfect sandal. Wait till the GF's see me!!

Summer 2010,
Bec's outdoor wedding was in the making. Bec constantly sending me to Etsy for items she wanted for the celebration and ceremony. From pearl earrings to custom made slippers, from mason jars to wedding headpieces- I never realized Etsy had so many fabulous items! Once I found out they had VINTAGE -I was hooked. I had always been a collector and loved mid-century modern so I came up with a plan- Babs and Bec could have a shop and share our passion for vintage with the world!
I scour the flea markets, resale shops and estate sales for my "finds" and take any vintage fabric I find and turn it into new treasures. I use bark cloth, gingham, old table linens, and Bec makes fabulous quilts. I add to our REMIX (which is my word for the recycle-upcycle) by making clocks out of vintage plates. Sometimes I throw a few of my own pieces of art into our shop. I am an artist, I paint in watercolors, throw pottery, and make jewelry.
I have met so many great people and fellow artists on Etsy. The journey has been a blast and FYI: the wedding came off without a hitch and Etsy played a creative roll.
Social media has helped us get the word out on RetroBabs, from Twitter to FaceBook, from Tumbler to Pinterest and our very own blog, we try to connect with others who may share our passion. Our blog features our hobby shop, Bab's garden, PROJECTS (which is up-cycling and recycling items I do for my own home), There is also a link to my personal blog about my art and all of these things blend together to make a pretty eclectic life!
